60s Book Illustrations-Britain

Vintage Illustrations Have Something Special.

Freely hand drawn,  unashamedly textural and a little askew, these treasures were found  in  the Shell and BP Guide to Britain, in a country far away from the UK in a small, old bookshop and bought for NZ$ 4.00. But Aren't they amazing?

Cornwall.

Dorset. Artist John Nash

Berkshire. Barbara Jones illustrator

Kent. Artist Rowland Hilder.

Gloucestershire by David Gentleman.

You're blessed when you meet Lady Wisdom,
     when you make friends with Madame Insight.
She's worth far more than money in the bank;
     her friendship is better than a big salary.
Her value exceeds all the trappings of wealth...
Proverbs 3 The Message.

  2. yes beautiful paintings of a beautiful country, if only it was like that now. But am reminded of the beauty of England by the serialization of Wolf Hall on the BBC, the tudor buildings and gardens they have found are magnificent
